Dirty Girl Construction: Joan Barton Bio
Joan Barton is originally from outside the Boston area. She has fifteen years of study in art and interior design, having attended the DeCordova Museum program, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Parson’s School of Design in New York City, as well as apprenticing several Boston-area artists in varying studies. She then graduated from Berklee School of Music in Boston with a B.A. in songwriting. In 1991 Joan relocated to California to begin a career in music. She worked for a decade as a composer, studio musician and songwriter.
In 2002, Joan decided to take a break from the music business. After a bit of puttering around, and with the bills still coming in, she decided to try something different and started a career in construction, working her way up from the office to the head of the team.
Since then, Joan has been building and remodeling nonstop. Her talents as a designer, combined with her vast knowledge base as a contractor, have put her at the forefront of her field. Whether the project is a modern, Craftsman, Mediterranean or apartment complex – or even a little cabin in the woods that needs some love – Joan manages to interpret her clients’ desires and needs into beautiful, comfortable and ergonomic living.
